Shared Lives: providing a home for adults with mental health issues

The Enhanced Lives Scheme
The Enhanced Lives Scheme forms part of the Shared Lives Scheme.
The scheme offers placements with enhanced support to people with mental health difficulties who are in need of hospital discharge due to no longer needing a hospital bed, or short periods of enhanced support to alleviate crisis prevention.
The aim of the scheme is to encourage people to maximise their independent living skills and to prepare returning back home or to a suitable placement.
How to become a Enhanced Mental Health carer
To become a Enhanced Mental Health carer, you need:
- good communication skills (oral and written)
- knowledge of mental health issues and a basic knowledge and understanding of the needs of adults with psychological and emotional challenges
- to be able to maintain confidentiality
- to be able to work under pressure
The role would suit someone with the relevant skills in the adult social care field, that would benefit from the flexibility of working when available.
Your responsibilities
You'll be part of a small group of Enhanced carers who will be selected to work with an a individual over a period of 8 weeks.
You will be supported by the mental health community to work through the individual's crisis and return them to their previous accommodation, or find suitable housing before the placement comes to an end.
You will have range of day-to-day responsibilities that you will need to provide as part of the standard provision of care.
