Where to find mental health advice and support in Croydon, including advice if you or someone you know is having a mental health crisis.

Non-emergency support

If you're worried about your mental health, it's important to speak to someone. This could be a friend or family member, but it's also a good idea to get support from your GP or a voluntary group. You can find organisations offering mental health advice and support in Croydon through Mind.

Your GP may refer you to the South London and Maudsley (SLAM) NHS Foundation Trust, which specialises in mental health. You can view the services available through SLAM on their website.

Patients and their relatives can get confidential advice and support from the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) website. or by calling 0800 731 2864.

Croydon Health & Wellbeing Space 

This is a voluntary and community, non-clinical offer  hosted by Croydon BME Forum & Mind in Croydon. It has in-reach from clinical mental health and social care.

Mental Health Personal Independence Co-ordinator service (MHPICs)

The MHPIC Service offers one to one support for people with serious mental health issues across primary and secondary care. MHPIC is as an out-reach function of the Croydon Health & Wellbeing Space. It is hosted by Croydon BME Forum & Mind in Croydon.

Emergency support

If you or someone you know has seriously harmed themselves, call 999 or go to a hospital with an Accident and Emergency (A&E) department.

Contact the 24-hour mental health crisis line on 0800 731 2864 for:

  • counselling on the phone
  • advice about how to handle a crisis
  • advice about available mental health services
  • communication with other services or teams on behalf of patients and carers
  • support to empower patients and their carers
  • self-management strategies

Visit your GP as soon as possible if you need urgent mental health support but are not experiencing a crisis.

If you're already receiving support and have a care plan, this will tell you who to contact in an emergency. If you can't find your care plan, contact your community mental health team on 020 3228 6000 and ask for your care coordinator.

Recovery Space 

This is an alternative safe space to the Accident and Emergency Centre at Croydon University Hospital for people experiencing a Mental Health crisis that does not require a clinical intervention.

Advocacy

Advocacy for All and Mind Croydon are organisations that specialise in a variety of advocacy services. in Croydon. Both organisations are independent from the NHS and the council.  They provide personalised advocacy for those with needs arising from mental health and learning disabilities. The service works with people  to ensure they understand their rights, have their voices heard, and enable people  to make an informed decision regarding their care and support needs.

Referrals into the service are made via Croydon Council Adult Social Services or NHS
