The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) is operated by the Food Standards Agency, rating businesses from 0 to 5 based on their food hygiene.
We carry out a risk based programme of food hygiene inspections on food businesses in Croydon, to ensure that food sold to the public is safe to consume. Certain businesses, such as wholesalers and manufacturers, are exempt from the scheme.
Most food businesses are part of the Food Hygiene Ratings Scheme (FHRS), operated by the Food Standards Agency. Following inspection, businesses are allocated a rating between 0 and 5, where 5 is very good.
As a business, you can request a re-visit.
If you require further information, please contact the inspecting officer, their telephone number is on your inspection report.
We abide by the FHRS Brand Standard, and have 3 months to complete a FHRS rescore visit. The start date is calculated from the date payment is received for your rescore visit. An application is not valid until the payment has been made.
Your rating can go down, go up, or remain the same following your re-visit.
The charge for this service is £250.00.
We will be in touch with you regarding payment. You will be required to pay the full amount upfront before the inspection, by card. Payment will not be taken until we have reviewed and approved your accompanying documentation.
You can appeal a rating on the Food Standards Agency website if you are unhappy with it and do not agree that the rating reflects the standards at the time of the inspection.
As a business owner or manager, you can request that a rating is published before the end of the appeal period. This request must be made in writing to your local authority (contact as below).
You must include:
We will review the request and will usually publish the rating early.
You can download the early publication form from the Food Standards Agency website.
Find out about your right to reply on the Food Standards Agency website in respect of the food hygiene rating given. You can explain any mitigating circumstances or state improvements that you have made since the inspection.
