Apply for a alcohol licensed premises gaming machine permit or notification

If you sell alcohol and hold a licence under the Licensing Act 2003 and you wish to operate category C and D gaming machines you must apply for a permit or submit a notification.

Who can apply

Any premises with a licence for the consumption of alcohol granted under the Licensing Act 2003 is entitled to apply for a gaming machine permit.

The gaming machines must be located on these licensed premises.

When to apply for a permit

If your premises will operate three or more machines, then you'll need to apply for a permit.

When to apply for a notification

If your premises will operate only one or two machines, then you'll need to submit a notification.

Number of gaming machine at a premises

There is no limit to the number of machines you can apply for, although we may have some discretion to the amount you can have. 

We can cancel the permit or vary the number of machines if your premises is mainly used for making gaming machines available for use on the premises.

You may wish to contact the us to ask whether there is a local policy as regards applications and whether application for certain numbers of machines are decided via a hearing of local councillors.

After you've applied

Your permit will only be issued to you when all the necessary inspections and checks have been carried out and the premises meets the required standards.

If your permit is granted, then it will be valid for 10 years.

Annual fee

The annual fee of £50 becomes payable on the anniversary of the grant of the permit. You can pay your annual fee online.

If your permit is rejected

You can appeal the rejection or any conditions of your permit to the Croydon Magistrates Court.

You can also have to attend a hearing.

If your permit is lost or stolen

It costs £15 for a new permit.
