If you use advertising boards outside your premises, you may need to apply for permission.
Shop advertising boards are commonly referred to as A-boards. Whilst it is recognised that A-boards form a vital part of local businesses' ability to attract customers, this has to be balanced with the needs of people to walk along footways.
The general approach outside the town centre is to deal with complaints on a case-by-case basis, trying to find solutions that accommodate the advertiser where possible as well as resolving the complaint.
In the town centre, the size and numbers of A-boards requires additional measures to regulate them. We therefore have designated an area where A-board consent applies (PDF, 780KB)
Apply for consent via the Planning Portal.
