The children looked after sufficiency plan

The best place for most children and young people to live is with their family of origin, but some will need to live with other carers for a short time or permanently.

Our children looked after sufficiency plan reviews the needs of the borough and aims to make sure there are enough homes available. The plan gathers information about children's needs and available resources, and describes how our services will meet their needs.

It includes services for children considered to be at risk, and early help services that reduce the need for children to come into the care system.

The law asks us to secure a place to live for looked after children within the borough and near the child's home. The Children Act 1989, section 22 (G) refers to this as the sufficiency duty.
