Become a domestic abuse community ambassador

Take part in our domestic abuse community ambassadors programme to stop domestic abuse and violence against women and girls, especially in minority communities and faith groups.

Stop domestic abuse and violence against women and girls (VAWG) in Croydon. Become a domestic abuse community ambassador and make a real difference in your community.

Why you should become an ambassador

If a friend, family member, or colleague was experiencing domestic abuse:

  • would you know how to respond?
  • could you recognise the warning signs?
  • are you equipped with the knowledge to offer support and guidance?

Become an ambassador and you will gain the tools and understanding needed to address these questions and play a vital role in combating domestic abuse and other forms of VAWG.

We are especially looking for individuals from the Black, Asian, and ethnic minority communities because these communities often face additional barriers in reporting and recognising the signs of abuse.

We know that some victims from faith groups are not seeking support and advice, and we want to change this in Croydon.

How to become an ambassador

You will need to take part in our domestic abuse community ambassadors programme, on both evenings of the 2 July and 9 July 2025.

Further dates will be scheduled for October 2025.

You will learn how to:

  • understand domestic abuse including coercive and controlling behaviour
  • identify the signs and symptoms of domestic abuse
  • recognise barriers to providing help
  • respond appropriately when someone shares their personal experience
  • listen effectively
  • use appropriate signposting

You will gain the skills to support, lead discussions, identify needs, and connect individuals to domestic abuse resources and local agencies. You will also be awarded a certificate of completion.

If you would like to become an ambassador, please complete the form and we will be in touch.
