Includes participating in consultations, public petitions, commenting on planning applications, watching council meetings and more
We welcome public participation in the work of Scrutiny committees.
Croydon residents, businesses and organisations can also participate in local action mini reviews, attending scrutiny committee meetings to provide information or by suggesting future topics for scrutiny committees to look at. You can also contact your local councillor who can raise an issue on your behalf (such as through a local action mini review).
If you have an area of expertise or information which the committee would find useful to hear about, do contact the Scrutiny team. This year we received contributions from adults and young people with knowledge on a range of issues.
A public petition can be debated at a council meeting under the agenda item 'The Croydon Debate'.
If you have a petition that you would like to be debated, you should send a copy of the petition, including the full wording and the signatures, to democratic.services@croydon.gov.uk. Petitions should be submitted up to 15 working days before the council meeting so that it can be checked and verified by Democratic Services.
E-petitions are also accepted. If you have conducted an online petition please download the spreadsheet of the e-signatures so that they can be verified. If more than one petition is received they will be taken in the order which they were received and scheduled for the next council meeting.
The rules relating to accepting petitions from members of the public are contained in the Council Procedure Rules of the Constitution of the London Borough of Croydon.
If your petition is accepted you will be given the opportunity to join a debate at the council meeting. There are 2 speaking slots available to members of the public representing the petition in a public petition debate.
