Tenant sustainment service
This service offers practical support to tenants who may be struggling with health issues, finances, or managing their home.
If you’re struggling with day-to-day issues, feeling overwhelmed, or worried about your tenancy, the tenant sustainment service can work with you to put support in place early and help you stay in your home.
This service is different from the general tenancy team. It focuses on support and early help, rather than managing tenancy cases or enforcement.
The aim is to help you manage challenges, feel more secure at home, and move towards greater independence.
Who the service can help
Support is available to residents living in general needs housing, retirement housing and extra care schemes.
You may be able to get support if you live in a council home and:
- are finding it hard to manage your tenancy
- are struggling with your mental or physical health
- have a long-term health condition or disability
- are feeling isolated or unsupported
- are having problems managing money, rent or benefits
- need extra help to keep your home safe and manageable
What support is available
Support is tailored to your situation and agreed with you.
We offer practical, one-to-one support, which may include help with:
- managing benefits and money
- applying for support such as grants or household funds
- dealing with rent or debt worries
- keeping your home safe and manageable, including hoarding support
- arranging repairs or safety checks if you need extra help
- support during major works or when a temporary move is needed
- linking you with other services if more support is needed
How the service works
Once you’re referred, a tenancy sustainment officer will:
- talk with you about your situation
- look at what support might help
- agree a simple plan with you
- stay involved while support is needed
We can also work with other services, such as health or social care teams, where appropriate.
