Monks Orchard, Lorne Gardens.
3 acres 1.21 hectares.
Glade Wood is a small area of woodland that was acquired by the Borough of Croydon over a period of two years and by public subscription. The area was divided into five plots that formed part of the rear gardens of the properties in The Glade.
The wood is shown on a plan of the Borough in 1800 between two fields, Joan Clays to the west and Blush Moor Hill to the east. Houses were built to the east of the wood and the area was included in the plots, during the 1930s the houses in Lorne Gardens were built.
The land was sold on the condition that it would be retained as a permanent open space and would not be open to the public.
