Electric Vehicle Charging Point strategy 2026 to 2030: public consultation

Have your say on how electric vehicle charging should be delivered across Croydon.

We are consulting on the draft Electric Vehicle Charging Point (EVCP) strategy for 2026 to 2030. The strategy sets out how we will support the expansion of the public electric vehicle charging system. This is to help residents, businesses and visitors have better access to charging points that are reliable, accessible, affordable and located fairly.

Before the strategy is finalised, we want to hear from:

  • residents
  • businesses
  • visitors to Croydon
  • community organisations
  • charge point operators
  • other stakeholders

Why we are consulting

The Mayor of Croydon's business plan prioritises making Croydon a safer and healthier place by taking action to reduce carbon emissions. This includes supporting the change to using electric vehicles in Croydon.

The strategy we're consulting on encourages the change from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric vehicles, as part of a sustainable and integrated transport network. It also explains how we'll work with communities, businesses, charge point operators and other partners to improve access to charging, particularly for residents who do not have off-street parking.

More people are expected to switch to using electric vehicles over the coming years. To support this change, Croydon needs a charging system that is convenient, safe, inclusive and able to meet demand in different parts of the borough.

What the strategy aims to do

The draft strategy sets out Croydon's approach to developing an electric vehicle charging network that:

  • supports convenient access to charging for residents, businesses and visitors 
  • helps households without driveways or off-street parking 
  • improves accessibility and fairness across the borough 
  • encourages investment in public charging systems 
  • works alongside wider transport, parking and sustainability priorities 
  • responds to new technology and changing charging needs

What we want your views on

We're asking for your feedback on the electric vehicle charging point strategy. Including whether the proposed priorities are right for Croydon. We want your views on:

  • where public charging points are most needed 
  • how charging can be made easier for residents without off-street parking 
  • how we can make charging more accessible and inclusive 
  • how we should work with residents, businesses, community groups and industry partners 
  • how new technologies could help improve access to charging in the future

What is not part of this consultation

Some parts of the strategy cannot be changed through this consultation if they are shaped by:

  • national legislation
  • regulations
  • accessibility standards
  • existing council policies

Take part in the consultation

The consultation survey is open to everyone who lives, works, studies, travels to or runs a business in Croydon. It will ask for your views on the future of electric vehicle charging in Croydon. This should take around 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

What happens next

Your responses to the consultation survey will help us to consider if changes are needed to the draft strategy. 

After the consultation closes, we will do the following 4 things.

1.    Review all consultation responses. 
2.    Publish a summary of the feedback received. 
3.    Update the strategy where appropriate. 
4.    Present the final strategy for consideration and approval.
