Supported living is a community-based service where you may have carer support 24 hours a day. The primary aim for this type of support is to enable you to become as independent as possible, supporting you to learn and improve upon existing life skills.
This type of community support will be dependent upon the outcome of your Social care assessment.
To be eligible for supported living you must be:
- over 18 years old with care and support needs
- eligible under the Care Act 2014
- diagnosed with a learning disability or autism
- a Croydon resident or registered with a Croydon GP
- eligible for housing benefit
Accommodation
Supported living can be delivered in all types of accommodation.
Your social worker will help you identify the supported living that is right for you. You may share a property or communal spaces with other people who will also require support.
Before you move into your new home there will be plenty of opportunities to visit and meet the other residents.
Tenancy
You, or someone on your behalf, will need to sign a tenancy agreement between you and your landlord.
Your social worker and landlord will help you understand the tenancy agreement before you move in. If you do not follow the rules of the agreement you may have to move out.
Support for paying rent
If you move into supported living, you may be able to claim housing benefit, your landlord will help you to apply. This does not pay for your other bills, for example electric, heating, these have to be paid each month.
Apply for supported living
To apply, contact the council and request a social care assessment.
Once your care and support assessment is completed, you will be sent a letter and a financial assessment form to complete and return to us as soon as you can.
