DHP - Rent in advance or Deposit
A discretionary payment can be awarded for a rent in advance and/or a deposit for a property that you are yet to move into.
We must be satisfied that the property is:
- Affordable long term
- A valid reason to move
- The deposit is no more then 5 weeks and the rent in advance is no more than 4 weeks.
- You are not due to receive a deposit from your current property
- You are in receipt of a qualifying benefit i.e Universal Credit or Housing Benefit.
If you have found a property then you will need to apply onlineand supply the following evidence:
- Budget planner
- 3 months bank statement for all accounts held
- Proof of income i.e. payslips or Universal Credit held
- Full details of new property
- Landlord details including email address
- Letter to show currently not in any arrears
Please do not put down a holding deposit as this award is not guaranteed.
If you are living at home or with a family member or you are at risk of becoming homeless then you will need to apply housing options self help tool o see what help the council can give you. Please do not make an application for DHP unless you have spoken to a prevention officer first.
Removal costs
If you need help with moving into your new property we can consider helping with removal costs, you will need to apply online. You will need supply the following evidence with your application:
- Budget Planner
- 3 months bank statements for all accounts held
- Copy of the new tenancy agreement
- 3 x removal quotes from 3 different companies that accept BACS payments
