Processing times

We have currently suspended processing copy certificates issued before 2008, due to an issue with our register storage

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Delivery times vary based on the date the original certificate was issued:

  • certificates issued from 2008 onwards can take up to 6 weeks
  • for certificates issued before 2008, you can get a copy of it by visiting the General Register Office web page

Make an order

We need to be able to find the original registration before we can make a copy. Make sure you are able to give us the relevant information.

You can order a copy of:

  • birth certificates
  • death certificates
  • marriage or civil partnership certificates

There is a different process for ordering adoption, citizenship, naturalisation and gender recognition certificates.
