Order a copy of a certificate

You can order a copy of a:

  • birth certificate
  • death certificate
  • marriage certificate
  • civil partnership certificate 

There is a different process for ordering adoption, citizenship, naturalisation and gender recognition certificates.

To get a copy of a certificate, the birth, death, marriage or civil partnership must have already been registered.

We need to be able to find the original registration before we can issue a copy.

Cost

Certificates cost £12.50. You can order up to 10 of each type of certificate.  

Processing and delivery times

Most certificates are processed and delivered within 17 working days of your order. It may take longer if the original certificate was issued before 2007.

You can order a copy of a certificate from:

You can only order from the General Register Office.
