You will need a licence to place a container, scaffolding, a cabin or building materials on the public highway, as well as erect hoardings on the public highway.

Application fees and bond deposits
There is a licence fee and a bond deposit to pay for each application you make.
Scaffolding, container or cabin licence
- £488 per 4 weeks (per elevation for hoarding and scaffold)
£610 per 4 weeks (per elevation for hoarding or scaffolding over 10m in length)
- Refundable bond deposit of £50 per square metre of enclosed highway also required
Hoarding licence
- £488 per 4 weeks (per elevation for hoarding and scaffold)
- £610 per 4 weeks (per elevation for hoarding or scaffolding over 10m in length)
- Refundable bond deposit of £50 per square metre of enclosed highway also required
Material licence
- Per day: £17
- 14 days: £233
- Refundable bond deposit of £100 also required
After you have paid your fee
You may have the option to pay your bond deposit at the same time as your fee, depending on the amount owed. If you choose to pay the bond later or if the amount due is more than £10,000, we will call you for the bond deposit. This can be paid by credit or debit card. The bond will be refunded after the completion of work, providing there is no damage to the enclosed public land.
