You will need a licence to place a container, scaffolding, a cabin or building materials on the public highway, as well as erect hoardings on the public highway.

You can extend your licence beyond the initial grant period or you can make a change to an existing licence.

The process for extending an ‘occupy the road’ licence in Croydon changed on 8 June 2023. If your licence was issued before then, please re-apply below. You will be sent a link in the confirmation email to manage your licences and permits going forward, including paying for extensions.
If your licence was issued after 8 June 2023, please use the link in your confirmation email to pay for an extension. We will also email you a reminder before the permit is due to expire.

Renewal fees
There is a licence fee for each application you make.
Scaffolding, container or cabin licence
- £488 per 4 weeks, per elevation
- £610 per 4 weeks, per elevation for scaffold over 10m in length
- refundable bond deposit of £50 per square metre of enclosed highway also required
Hoarding licence
- £488 per 4 weeks, per elevation
- £610 per 4 weeks, per elevation for scaffold over 10m in length
- refundable bond deposit of £50 per square metre of enclosed highway also required
Material licence
- per day: £17
- 14 days: £233
- refundable bond deposit of £100 also required
