Grants for Community Photography programme

The programme is provided by Richard and Siobhán Coward Foundation, a small, privately funded, charitable foundation established to honour the life and work of Richard Coward.

Objectives of fund

The funding is designed to empower children and young adults under the age of 25 year old to take part in activities that provide practical photographic experience and techniques.

Activities must provide a therapeutic effect on children's or young people's physical and mental wellbeing.

Value notes

Grants of between £500 and £1,500 are available.

Projects benefitting from these grants would be expected to last for up to a year and be put into effect within the same year.

Match Funding restrictions

The foundation can fund up to 100% of costs, but normally expects its contribution to be matched either by other funding or in-kind contributions.

Who can apply

Applications can be made by the artist or photographer who will be leading the project or by charitable organisations on their behalf. Projects must take place in the UK. Only 1 application may be submitted per year.

Restrictions

Grant applications must be for new project proposals, though it may be phase of a longer-term programme or a part of a wider project.

Eligible use of funds

This funding can be used to support projects such as:

  • a single workshop
  • an event
  • a programme of linked activities

This may, involve working with the participants solo or in groups. Examples of activities that may be included are:

  • outings with a photographer to learn how to take pictures of people or landscapes using digital or analogue film
  • dark room experiences
  • creating images using techniques such as cyanotype or pinhole cameras
  • learning printing techniques using a range of media

How to apply

There is one application round annually, opening on 18 January each year. The deadline for applications is the 2 April each year.
