Help us keep pipes flowing
Help stop blockages in pipes and sewers by only flushing the right things down the toilet and putting the rest in the bin. This will help keep pipes and drains flowing smoothly.
Every year we clear around 5,364 blockages, many of which are caused by wet wipes, sanitary items, and cotton pads that do not break down.
When these items are flushed down the toilet, they ball up with cooking fats and oils to form ‘fatbergs’ which block pipes. This can force raw sewage to back up into drains, plugholes and toilets, potentially flowing back into your home.
Keep pipes flowing
To help us keep our pipes flowing you should:
- bin sanitary items, nappies and cotton buds
- only flush pee, poo and toilet paper
- cool down fats and oil before putting them in a bin
You should never:
- put sanitary items, nappies or cotton buds down the toilet
- flush wet wipes down the toilet
- pour fats and oil down the sink
