You can help your child learn life skills by chatting with them to teach them to talk, reading to them and playing together to encourage them to be physically active.
Find out more on the NHS Start for Life website.
Your child will start to recognise more words than they can say at this age, so every conversation, game or story will be supporting their understanding. Try to respond to their babble and pick out and expand on words they are saying. It will help them become a more confident communicator.
Read more about early language skills on the NHS Start for life website.
Help and support is available if you feel your child is struggling with their development in speech or interaction.
Chatterbox groups are for Croydon families with children aged 4 years and under who have concerns about their child’s talking or interaction. They are run in Croydon children’s centres by speech and language therapists and assistants, along with children’s centre staff from across the borough.
The groups are designed to promote, encourage, and support speech, language and communication development in pre-school aged.
You can find more information on the Croydon Local Offer website.
If your child has learning difficulties, or a disability, that means they need special health and education support. They may be able to get support through their school or a supporting organisation.
