How you can help care for a vulnerable Croydon child
Becoming a foster carer can be daunting but did you know there are many different types of fostering that can help you decide whether it's right for you and your family?
Children placed into foster homes with loving families can see their lives being transformed. Young people enter into care for many reasons which include abuse and neglect, parent illness and abandonment.
Roisin Madden, Director of Children’s Services, says: “Croydon’s foster carers come from a diverse range of backgrounds and have a shared motivation and desire to make a difference to the lives of local children and young people.
We have an urgent need for more people to step forward who can offer safety and stability to Croydon’s vulnerable children. Becoming a foster carer is a big decision and our fostering team are on hand to answer any questions you may have and help you make that decision with careful consideration.”
Some people can’t dedicate their time to a full-time fostering role, others may feel they want a longer-term role in the child’s life. Either way, there are different types of fostering which may help make up your mind.

Croydon needs more people from all walks of life to provide stable, supportive and loving homes for some of the borough's most vulnerable children and young people. These case studies give a clear view of the kind of impact that fostering can have on young people and you as a foster carer. If you think this sounds like you, get in touch. We're eager to hear from you.
Safia, a single parent and primary school teacher, felt she had the right qualities to provide care to vulnerable children and had seen the impact fostering had on children.
Lisa and Mark currently foster a 15-year-old boy, who arrived 18 months ago suffering from PTSD, unable to speak English and due to issues in his past was always on ‘alert’.
