Private tenants

Everybody deserves a safe, decent, and well managed home.

Most private landlords are responsible. We support and work with them through our regular landlord forums and newsletters. However, there are some landlords who don't know what they should be doing. A very small minority ignore their legal obligations and let homes in poor condition. 

We aim to support private sector tenants to make sure their home reaches the standards required by law. We will give priority to tenants facing the worst conditions and standards. We have a range of powers to tackle issues relating to disrepair, but what we can do as a local authority is restricted by the existing legal framework and our own resources.
