Design progress

Design sessions

An architect worked with the Residents Working Group to draw up plans for what a rebuild option could look like, compared with refurbishment. These plans considered options and ideas for different types of housing, green spaces and play facilities.

The design proposals were available at the public meetings in January 2023.

Initial design approach

An initial design approach was developed alongside the Landlord Offer as part of the ballot process. The approach has now been progressed in line with delivering a planning submission for phase 1 in May 2024 and the Masterplan approach for the whole scheme.

Three sessions were held in November and December 2023, which were open to residents within the Regina Road redevelopment area, neighbouring residents, and various stakeholders and partners, including:

  • local businesses
  • charities
  • third-sector organisations
  • education
  • health
  • social care stakeholders

All those who may have had an interest or may have been impacted by the rebuild program were welcome to attend, providing them with the opportunity to speak with the architects and landscape architects to learn about the proposals and offer feedback and comments on the evolving designs.

Design progress update

We recently held a community consultation on 26 February. Plans were shared for:

  • high-quality homes designed to improve public spaces
  • green spaces and play areas to create a safe, welcoming environment
  • better lighting and security to make outdoor spaces safer
  • a new community space for local groups and activities
  • a new pre-school with outdoor play areas and easy access to green spaces

Resident feedback

Residents shared their ideas on how we can make the landscaping and community spaces better for everyone.

Safe space suggestions were made for:

  • socialising
  • art clubs
  • exercise areas
  • a kitchen space

For outdoor areas, people wanted features that bring everyone together while also allowing diverse groups to use them.

Many also mentioned the importance of greenery and shared spaces to help build a strong community.

We will be holding more sessions for residents to get involved before the planning application is submitted this summer.

Next steps

In addition to the results of the online survey, the feedback received from previous consultations will inform the designs going forward. Further events will take place to show the progress of the designs, incorporating stakeholder views where possible.
