Education, training and careers for 16 to 18s

Information and advice to help young people prepare for their future.

Options when you're 16

By now, you will have received your GCSE and A-Level results. No matter how you did in your exams, we want you to know that there is support available to you.  Whether you’re considering further education, skills training or going into employment, our handy guide will point you in the right direction.

The law states you must stay in education or training until you’re 18. There are 4 different ways you can do this:

1. Study full time

Making choices about the future can feel quite daunting, but it doesn’t have to be.  Our Young Croydon website offers advice, as well as a link to the My Choices at 16+ guide, a directory of course and training information for sixth forms, colleges, training providers in and within easy reach of Croydon.

2. Get a job

Our job brokerage service, Croydon Works offers a free recruitment service for Croydon residents.

3. Earn while you learn

An apprenticeship lets you learn skills and get paid.

You can:

4. Volunteer 20+ hours a week with accredited learning
