Education, training and careers for 16 to 18s

Information and advice to help young people prepare for their future.

Referring a young person

If you are a care experienced young person, or an adult working with or supporting a care experienced young person, for example, currently in care or about to leave care, find out more about how we can support you.

Post 16 Participation and NEET Team

The Post 16 Participation Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) team provides one to one support to young people living in Croydon who are not in education, employment or training. Support is provided to those who are:

  • aged 16 to 18
  • aged 16 to 21 if they are currently in care or have ever been in care
  • aged 16 to 24 and have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP)

Young people aged 16 must be in academic Year 12.

A caseworker will work with the young person to support them find an appropriate pathway to Education, Employment or Training (EET).

Referral process

To ensure that NEET young people have access to support, referrals are usually assessed  within 2 weeks. This can take longer during busier times, for example summer holidays.  We will however, always let you know the current waiting times.

Referral forms must be fully completed.  We are a consent-based service, so it is essential that this is indicated on the form.  If the form is incomplete the referral will not be accepted.

Please download and complete the referral form at the bottom of this page and email it to post16@croydon.gov.uk

Once we received the referral form, the referring professional, parent or carer will be contacted to confirm to whom the case was allocated and in some cases, why the referral could not be processed or allocated. If we are unable to help, we will give you details of other teams or organisations that we think are more appropriate to support you.
