Sheltered housing is designed to meet the needs of older people who are seeking a home for independent living into their retirement.
Costs
Residents living in sheltered housing will need to pay:
- rent
- service charges, these include caretaking, cleaning, security, grounds maintenance, communal lighting and staffing costs
- heating and hot water charges if the scheme has a shared system
- electricity and gas
- water rates
- council tax
- home contents insurance
Sheltered housing is not part of the Right to Buy scheme.
