Sheltered housing offers the peace of mind in knowing that support is available 24 hours a day, with an alarm system that can be activated from the rooms in your flat and from the communal areas.
Most sheltered housing tenants qualify for housing benefit, which reduces the amount of rent you have to pay each week. Your housing officer may be able to get an estimate of your entitlement and advise you of the different rent payment methods.
You will have to pay a weekly supporting people charge to social services. This service charge covers:
If you claim Housing Benefit you will not have to pay this charge, no matter how small your Housing Benefit entitlement.
If you are not entitled to Housing Benefit you may still be entitled to help with the charge. To do this you should apply for help to the social services assessment team.
